Holidays

Remember when you were little and what you remember the most about any given holiday?  I do, and all I remember about Christmas was "Santa" although I never believed in him (my mom ruined that for me).  I remember pumpkins for Halloween, a bunny and egg hunting for Easter, a parade for Thanksgiving, card exchanges and chocolate for Valentine's day, and presents on my birthday.

It is interesting how the media has even taken the meaning of any given holiday out of context.  I bet if you asked any group of small children or even adults, what the real meaning behind a particular holiday (maybe Christmas aside) is, and they wouldn't be able to answer you.  The media has such a profound effect on so many facets of day to day life, and it seems as though holiday celebrations are included.  Every holiday is so commercialized, that when thinking about them, the media has engrained these particular images into the minds of everyone who is exposed to these medias, and the truest meaning of these holidays is lost in the mix.
